The Vibia Guise Collection
The Guise collection from Vibia includes pendant lamps, both vertical and horizontal, that allows them to be placed over dining tables, offices or social and circulation areas, with single fittings or multiple configurations. Designed by Stefan Diez, it has scooped multiple design awards, including the German Design Award 2018, Design Plus 2018, Archiproducts Design Award 2017 and Red Dot Awards 2018, and remains equally relevant today. Whether you are looking for achingly chic dining lighting or to seriously up the niche desk game or simply a statement wall piece, Guise offers multiple solutions suitable for wall, hanging and ceiling.
Each Guise lamp is made from a single tube of borosilicate glass, known for the ability to endure harsh sunlight, heat, ageing and corrosive substances. This glass transmits light from Guise’s slim LED unit, acting as a diffuser. The glass itself is manufactured for Vibia by Schott in Mainz, Germany, producers of specialist glass for over 130 years.
With Guise, Stefan Diez has discovered a new potential use for LED technology in contact with matter: The light emanates from the piece of glass, while the source remains invisible, achieving a magical effect while at the same time fully functional. Because of the transparency of the glass when it is switched off, the lamp almost disappears. When switched on, it expresses a luminous and almost magnetic presence.
The wall sconce version with a different formal expression features a glass disk that gives off a perimeter glow where the Led light source is also hidden. When turned off, it becomes fused with its background; when on, it evokes a solar eclipse.
